Staying Alive Drug Overdose Prevention and Response Program
The Staying Alive Program (SAP) seeks to reduce drug overdoses by teaching injection drug users, drug treatment clients and providers, prison inmates, and corrections officers how to treat and reverse opiate/heroin overdoses.
Participants are trained how to recognize an opiate/heroin overdose and respond by administering rescue breathing and Naloxone (a drug used to counter the effects of opioid overdose). Participants are also taught the the signs and symptoms of an overdose as well as the risk factors for an overdose. Myths of street remedies for overdoses are dispelled. SAP also makes referrals to drug treatment programs and conducts syringe exchange. For the exact schedule, please contact program directly.
