Health Department Reminds Residents of Simple Tips to Stay Healthy During Flu and Cold Season
Baltimore, MD- The Baltimore City Health Department is calling on residents of Baltimore to continue to take precautions against the spread of influenza. Reports from area schools and workplaces indicate that outbreaks are continuing.
Here are the Health Department's top five ways to stay healthy and help others stay healthy in flu season:
Wash your hands frequently
If you are sick, stay home and limit contact with others. If your children are sick, keep them at home until they feel better.
Wash your hands frequently
Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing, and use disposable paper tissues to blow or wipe your nose.
Wash your hands frequently
Influenza usually comes on suddenly, lasts three to seven days, and causes high fever, cough, and other generalized symptoms.
In children and adults, some warning signs that merit urgent medical attention include: bluish skin color, not drinking enough fluids, worsening of underlying chronic medical conditions (for example, heart or lung disease, or diabetes), fainting, confusion, and severe or persistent vomiting. Any other concerning symptoms or signs should also be evaluated by a clinician.
