Baltimore City Recognizes World TB Day
BALTIMORE, MD - The Baltimore City Health Department is recognizing global efforts to fight tuberculosis on World Tuberculosis Day.
The Baltimore City Health Department's Tuberculosis Control Program is hosting an open house with informational sessions about the disease. This open house will be held at the Eastern Chest Clinic located at 620 N. Caroline Street.
Over the past decade, the incidence of tuberculosis has dropped by 25% in Baltimore City. However, cases still occur, and Baltimore (incidence rate 10.4 per 100,000) still remains above the target of 3.5 cases per 100,000.
"Tuberculosis is an ongoing challenge requiring prevention, treatment, and monitoring," said Dr. Kima Taylor, Assistant Commissioner for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. "Our staff at the Tuberculosis Control Program play a critical role in protecting Baltimore from this potentially lethal disease."
