BALTIMORE, MD (February 27, 2006) Baltimore City Health Department Commissioner, Dr. Joshua M. Sharfstein, confirms that the rumor surrounding a West Baltimore school and a communicable disease outbreak is not true.

The available evidence provided by Sinai Hospital does not support the diagnosis of a Gilmore Elementary School teacher having bacterial meningitis.

In Baltimore Doctors are required to report suspected cases to the Health Department immediately. The Health Department then informs the public and possible contacts about the need for treatment.
