Sex Education for Grown-Ups

Family Life Sex Education Parent Graduation

When: Friday, February 10, 2006
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Where: Annie E. Casey Building
2nd Floor Conference Room
503 North Charles Street
Baltimore, MD 21201

Who: The Baltimore City Health Department and the New York City based Children's Aid Society (CAS) will hold a graduation ceremony for parent and adult graduates of the Parent Family Life/Sex Education program. Called "Walkers and Talkers" or "Promotoros," these graduates are parents of youth in CAS' Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program and adults from communities served by the program who have undergone a 45-hour training in sex education. This program is delivered through the Baltimore City Health Department.

This training facilitates parents/adult's ability to communicate more effectively with their children about important family life and sexuality issues. The program combines the core principles of the acclaimed Annie E. Casey Foundation's Plain Talk model with the Children's Aid Society twenty-year parent family life program.

What: The CAS Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program is a comprehensive "above-the-waist" model that helps adolescents focus their energies and outlook on a future that does not include becoming a teen parent. Through daily participation and support, teens in low-income families and communities are given opportunities and encouragement in many areas of their lives, including education, health care, and the world of work
